It’s an honor to be connected to the Michigan Conference despite spending most of my life in South Korea. GBGM sent me to Korea in 1981 to teach English at Mokwon College and Holston Girls High School. I stayed for nine years, then headed to GETS with a Korean husband and baby in tow. I interned at University UMC/Wesley Foundation and was appointed in 1994 to Grand Ledge First UMC before heading back to Korea in 2000, having added two kids to the family. But in 2003 GBGM had to downsize missionaries around the world due to the economic downturn, so my missionary contract was terminated.
Fortunately, I was the PTA President and on the Board of Trustees at Taejon Christian International School, and they needed a bilingual/bicultural counselor to help with the growing pains of transforming from a small missionary kids glorified homeschool to a world-standard international school with an increasing Korean enrollment, so I found the sweet spot that combined my skills and experiences from working in churches and schools in the US and Korea. The Bishop graciously appointed me to serve at TCIS as an extension minister and I have been there ever since, working in the Counseling Department, as Parent Liaison, and with Admissions.
It has been an honor to be accepted as a guest in this country while remaining connected to Michigan. My greatest joy has been to see young children grow into internationally-minded leaders who are making positive differences in the world.
