Rev. Suzanne K. Goodwin

After a 20-year career in the business word, I began to experience God’s calling through the music of the church. So, I began serving as a Minister of Music at Lebanon First UMC in the Tennessee Conference in 2002 while I attended Garrett and explored the ministry of a Deacon. When my husband and I moved back to Michigan in 2005, I began serving at Orchard UMC in Farmington Hills as a Deacon and was commissioned in 2007. At Orchard, I served first as a Youth Pastor, then Music Ministry, and finally as the Minister of Discipleship and Evangelism. In time, I experienced God calling me to a ministry of leadership as an Elder.  I accepted an appointment at Mason First UMC in 2019 and completed the official transition of my orders in 2024.

There is nothing so demanding, uplifting, rewarding, and fulfilling as saying yes to God. In almost 30 years of working for the church, I have learned that God has a sense of humor; that it’s best to trust God and let God’s plan unfold before me, and that real contentment comes when you’re in tune with the Spirit and not wailing away at your own tune.

Jim and I are looking forward to doing all the things we’ve been putting off for career and family.  Time to paint, read, golf, travel, and maybe do a little writing. It has been a joy and blessing serving in the United Methodist Church.
